Early Decision
Early Decision vs. Early Action vs. Regular Decision
Early Decision
The application process made by a student to an institution, that if admitted by Dec. 15th, the student will enroll. You will see a financial aid package at this time. A non-refundable deposit is usually due in January. This plan is only for students who know exactly where they want to attend if admitted.
Early Action
The application process that permits a student to apply to an institution of preference and receive a decision in advance of normal responses. The candidate is not committed to enroll at that particular institution. They are not bound to a commitment as in early decision. Students have until May 1 to decide. Early action-single choice.
Regular Decision
The application process in which an institution reviews applications prior to notifying the majority of its candidates (April 1). Students may apply to other colleges and have until May 1 to accept or decline.
Rolling Admission
The application process in which an institution reviews applications as they are received and offers decision to students as applications are reviewed. Students may apply to other colleges. (99% of colleges)
Wait List
An institution does not initially offer or deny admission, but extends to a candidate the possibility of admission in the future. Notify students of status as soon as after May 1 as possible.
