Parents Right to Know Per Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA)
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), through the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that districts provide parents with certain information and that certain other information be provided if requested. The following information must be provided to parents.
- Information on the level of achievement and academic growth of the student, if applicable and available, on each of the state academic assessments required under ESSA.
- Timely notice if their child has been assigned to, or taught for four or more consecutive weeks by, a teacher of core academic subjects who does not meet applicable state certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which the teacher has been assigned.
The following information about the child’s classroom teacher(s) must be provided in a timely manner, if requested by a parent.
- Whether the teacher has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
- Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived.
- Whether the teacher is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.
- Whether the child is provided services from a paraprofessional and, if so, the paraprofessional’s qualifications. Information indicated above may be obtained by contacting the school principal or the Administrator for Human Resources, 2420 Woodson Road, St Louis, MO 63114.
